Jubila Singers was founded on the Central Coast, NSW in 2011 by Jane Becktel, B.Mus (Hons). It is a 50-voice non-auditioned community choir which sings vibrant music from cultures having a strong harmonic tradition. We sing in many different languages and primarily a cappella, and also sing some music from the Western classic tradition – the classical component takes up about a third of our repertoire. Singers learn by ear or they learn from notated music – most singers read music, some don’t. Our repertoire includes Russian chorales, unusual Appalachian gospel, delightfully ear-bending Czech folk-songs, riveting music from Georgia and stirring African hymns. We are a non-religious group. One quarter of the choir will be performing at Choralfest 2019.
