Perth Male Voice Choir (PMVC) is a community and performance choir singing in four-part harmony. The choir is one of the oldest in Perth, having first been established in 1926. PMVC routinely perform throughout the Perth metropolitan area and in recent years have performed in music festivals in Kalgoorlie and Dunsborough, as well as at various venues in Perth as part of ‘Singing the City’. We also are available for hire for concert performances and events such as weddings and funerals. The choir has a varied repertoire including traditional Welsh male voice classics, songs from the shows, and contemporary pieces. The choir is conducted by Simone Bishop and our accompanists are Christina Bailey and Andrew Angel.
PMVC is not an audition choir. Whilst some singing experience and an ability to read music are desirable, they are not essential. The most important attribute for our choir is enthusiasm. In October of this year we have been invited to sing at the Royal Albert Hall in London, as part of the London Welsh Festival of Male Choirs. We will be performing with fourteen other male choirs from around the world. We are one of two Australian choirs who have been invited. Prior to the Albert Hall concert we will be touring South Wales and the Cotswolds and performing in a number of concerts. At the moment we are very busy learning the 17 songs that are required for our performance at the Royal Albert Hall. We are learning songs in Welsh, German and Latin, as well as English. Challenging, but very rewarding.
